The risk of exposure to Silica

Silica is one of the most common hazards on a worksite, particularly in the construction, oil and gas, manufacturing, and agriculture industries. Silica dust can cause silicosis, a serious and irreversible lung disease. It can also cause lung cancer. Cutting, breaking, crushing, drilling, grinding, or blasting concrete or stone releases the dust. As workers breathe in the dust the silica settles in their lungs.

He has operational experience with managing security operations in war zones, diplomacy, protective intelligence, public safety, private security and safety management and consulting.

Learning Objectives

The learning objectives of this Silica Awareness course are to ensure that students demonstrate an understanding of the following:.

Learning Objective 1

Students will learn about Silica and the health effects of exposure, as well as, recognize the tasks and hazards associated with Silica.

Learning Objective 2

Students will learn the controls that must be in place to eliminate or reduce the hazard and Silica exposure control plan requirements.

Learning Objective 3

Students will learn about employer and worker responsibilities, personal protective equipment, respirator inspection and respirator fit test.
